Governor Mwangaza to know fate Wednesday

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza will know her fate Wednesday as Senators are set to vote to either uphold her impeachment or dismiss the charges.

The Governor’s witnesses are taking the stand to testify on the charges leveled against her.

The witnesses defended the Governor from the charges, while also taking a swipe at the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders for allegedly influencing her impeachment.

The Governor will also be allowed time to defend herself against the seven charges by the County Assembly will have two hours to plead her case.

The Senate will then vote on the case to uphold the charges leveled against her by the county assembly or dismiss the impeachment motion.

The Meru Governor pleaded not guilty to the seven charges with her lawyers insisting that the process was riddled with vindictiveness.

On the first day of the Senate plenary hearings yesterday, Meru County Assembly through a host of witnesses implored the Senate to uphold the impeachment of Mwangaza accusing her of misuse and misappropriation of county funds, illegal appointments and usurpation of statutory powers, nepotism and related unethical practices among other charges.
