Kenya boosts border security as PS Omollo flags off IOM-donated vehicles

The government has received patrol vehicles donated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in a bid to enhance Kenya’s border security efforts.

The vehicles are expected to enhance patrol efficiency and response times, bolstering the country’s efforts to safeguard its borders against emerging security threats.

Speaking during the handover on Wednesday morning, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo said, the move marks a significant boost to border security operations, enhancing coordination, mobility, surveillance, and rapid response capabilities.

Dr. Omollo, who is also the Chairman of the Border Control and Operations Coordinating Committee (BCOCC) noted that the partnership between the Border Management Secretariat (BMS) and IOM continues to play a crucial role in enhancing Kenya’s border security and governance.

“It has contributed to key initiatives, including training 395 frontline border officers in collaboration with the Kenya School of Government and hosting the first-ever National Border Management Conference.”

Building on the achievements, PS Omollo, alongside IOM Chief of Mission Sharon Dimanche, officially flagged off Land Cruiser vehicles donated by IOM to support border security operations between Nairobi and Nadapal, Turkana County.
