Four suspected Al-Shabaab terrorists were on Monday, June 2, 2025, killed in an intelligence-led operation conducted by the National Police Service (NPS) in the Najo and Guracho areas of Garissa County.

The raid was carried out by officers from the Special Operations Group (SOG), an elite unit within the NPS, following credible intelligence on the presence of terror elements in the region.

According to a statement released by the NPS, the officers encountered resistance as they approached the hideouts leading to a fierce gunfight.

“A fierce exchange of fire ensued, overwhelming the Al-Shabaab terrorists,” NPS said.

During the operation, four AK-47 assault rifles, a PKM machine gun, assorted rounds of ammunition, and several communication devices, including handheld radios were recovered.

The recovered items are believed to have been used to coordinate attacks and maintain contact with other militant cells.

No officers were injured during the operation.

“This successful operation marks yet another major victory in a series of a well-coordinated efforts that continue to cripple Al-Shabaab’s activities,” the statement read.

Authorities also commended the cooperation between security agencies and local residents, noting that community support plays a critical role in counter terrorism efforts.

The NPS urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through official communication channels to help in fight against terrorism.
