Finance Bill Protests: US Embassy warns its citizens in Kenya

The US Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, has issued a safety alert for its citizens following protests over the Finance Bill 2024.

In a statement on Tuesday, the US Embassy urged American citizens living the country to remain vigilant and aware of circumstances that may occur during the protests.

It also asked its citizens to avoid large gatherings and be aware of traffic disruptions due to the protests.

“There is a planned protest about the Finance Bill of 2024 in the area of the Parliament of Kenya in the Central Business District beginning at 12:00 pm,” read the statement.

“Organizers have stated that the events are intended to be peaceful.  However, large public gatherings can turn violent at any moment.  It is recommended to remain vigilant and aware of circumstances and avoid large gatherings.  Traffic disruptions are expected,” the statement further read.
