Egypt becomes 3rd African team to qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Egypt became the 3rd African team to punch their ticket for the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, set to be co hosted next year by the USA, Mexico and Canada.

The Pharaohs whipped Djibouti 3-0 in a Group A match staged in Casablanca, Morocco, yesterday evening to gain an unassailable lead of 23 points from 9 matches, joining their North African counterparts Morocco and Tunisia for next year’s global showpiece.

Ibrahim Adel opened the scoring for the Egyptians before their talisman Mohamed Salah added a brace to round up the resounding victory.

The seven time African Champions will be playing in next year’s World Cup for the fourth time, after 1934, 1990, and 2018.

48 teams will take part in the tournament for the first time in history, with Africa getting 9 slots.
