DCI continues crackdown on protest looters, recovers numerous stolen items

Several suspects have been arrested and numerous stolen items recovered, including an LG fridge and several Luminarc plates and cups, as police continue their investigations into recent thefts during the Finance 2024 bill protests.

In an ongoing investigation into the breaking and torching of Chieni supermarkets in Nyeri and Nanyuki, police in Nyeri and Laikipia counties have recovered several stolen goods and arrested a number of suspects found in their possession.

Among the recoveries are washing machines, refrigerators, water dispensers, bicycles, kitchenware, food items, clothing, and many other items.

At a rental house in Nanyuki, 24-year-old Chris Nduni Wamuhu was arrested with a stolen Hisense fridge, Uken water dispenser, coffee cups, teaspoons, hotpot dishes, Luminarc plates, among others.

According to the DCI, this arrest followed the circulation of phone recordings capturing his image while stealing from the supermarket.

In another house in Nanyuki, next to Kengeles Club, Moses Njuguna Gachwe, 30, was found with 22 pairs of khaki trousers, 9 T-shirts, 24 undergarments (boxers), and sandals, all stolen during the demonstrations.

Meanwhile, in the outskirts of the town at Asian Quarters, 35-year-old Charles Kaariri Mumbi was arrested with a junior ride bike, while John Ndirangu Ndirirtu, 41, was found with six vacuum flasks, a shopping trolley, an LG fridge, and several Luminarc plates and cups.

Several other suspects have been arrested, and more recoveries have been made as police continue their investigations to nab other identifiable persons captured igniting the fires and disappearing with stolen goods.
