Court reinstates Prof. Paul Wainaina as KU Vice Chancellor

Prof. Paul Wainaina has been reinstated to his position as Vice Chancellor of Kenyatta University following a High Court ruling that declared his removal from office unlawful.
In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, the Employment and Labour Relations Court overturned the actions of the Public Service Commission and the Kenyatta University Council, ordering Prof. Wainaina’s immediate reinstatement.
The legal battle which began on 14th April, 2024, saw Prof. Wainaina sent on compulsory leave by the university council, on accusations of accumulated leave days.
The Court has additionally nullified the appointment of Prof. Waceke Wanjohi as the institution’s acting Vice Chancellor, clarifying that Prof. Wainaina’s term as Vice Chancellor would continue until its scheduled expiry on 26th January, 2026.
