The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has provisionally suspended Olympian and 10-mile record holder Bernard Kibet Koech, for use of prohibited substances.
The 25-year-old shattered the 17-year-old 10-mile world record set by Ethiopia’s Haile Gebrselassie, at the 39th edition of the Kumamoto Kosa 10-mile in December 2022, setting the current record of 44:04.
Koech, who finished 5th in both the 2023 World Athletics Championships and the Paris 2024 Olympics, is the latest Kenyan to be sanctioned in the fight against doping in the country ahead of the Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
