12 illegal firearms surrendered in Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo

Police in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet, have received nine firearms and 120 rounds of ammunition surrendered by residents in the last two days.

The cache included eight AK-47 rifles and one G3 rifle, handed over to the Sub-County Security team with the support of peace committees in Arror, Chesuman and Mokoro.

Authorities said the latest recovery raises the ongoing disarmament totals to 249 illegal firearms, 1,758 rounds of ammunition and one grenade.

Meanwhile, police in Kolowa, Baringo County, received three AK-47 rifles with magazines and eight rounds of ammunition, surrendered by members of the public through peace structures in Kipnai.

The National Police Service (NPS) lauded the cooperation of residents, elders and peace committees, urging continued information sharing and voluntary handover of illegal weapons to boost security in the Kerio Valley region.

“National Police Service commends the continued cooperation of the public, elders, and peace committees, and encourages further support in advancing peace through information sharing and the voluntary surrender of illegal firearms.”
